Giving Tuesday campaigns that amplify your holiday giving

Giving Tuesday — the “global generosity movement” that encourages people to engage in some post-Black Friday charitable giving — has arrived, and Mashable's rounded up some of this year’s biggest giveback campaigns.

Started in 2012, Giving Tuesday falls on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, well-past Black Friday deals, small business Saturday roundups, and Cyber Monday sales. Through collaborations with national businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations, the day will hopefully catalyze millions of dollars in charitable donations to organizations around the country and the world. The official Giving Tuesday campaign hosts donation opportunities in 80 countries, and last year’s contributions totalled $2.47 billion in just the first 24 hours, according to the organization.

The campaign also encourages more than financial donations. Check out its list of alternative ways to give back to your community and those around the country, like joining Giving Tuesday’s letter campaign for elderly folks who might be a little lonely this winter, or volunteering your time to neighbors, nonprofits, or community fridges, whether in person or virtually.

And consider extending your generosity beyond the holiday season. The Giving Tuesday campaign also runs a weekly, year-round series, called #GivingEveryTuesday, that highlights charitable opportunities and brings awareness to important global holidays, like International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Scroll below for specific Giving Tuesday campaigns that amplify your donations through donation matching or other incentives.

1. Facebook (Meta)

On Giving Tuesday, donate to eligible U.S. nonprofits through Facebook Fundraisers and Meta will match all eligible donations up to $8 million

2. DonorsChoose

Beginning 7am E.T. on Nov 30, all donations to campaigns on DonorsChoose, a national crowdsourcing platform for educators, will be matched at 50%. For example, a $10 donation will receive a $5 matching contribution. This year, as part of its racial justice work, the website is highlighting Equity Focus Schools, schools where at least 50% of students are Black, Latinx, Native American, Pacific Islander, or multiracial and at least 50% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Donors can find relevant campaigns from educators in Equity Focus Schools on its website.

3. Chewy

From Nov. 24 to 30, Chewy will match up to $2 million in customer purchases made through Chewy's Wish List feature, which allows participating shelters and rescue organizations to curate lists of needed items. Chewy, in partnership with Greater Good Charities, will distribute the matching donation to a nationwide animal welfare organization.

4. Sesame Workshop

All donations to Sesame Workshop, the education nonprofit behind Sesame Street, will be matched up to $50,000. The dollar-to-dollar matching is supported by a Sesame Workshop trustee.

5. Dell

From Nov. 30 to Dec. 30, Dell will donate a new Education 2-in-1 device to an underserved student impacted by the country's digital divide for every computer donated to its Trade In program. All brands of computers will be accepted, but donations will be capped at 2,000 devices. The initiative is part of the Trade In and Give campaign, in collaboration with the Take on Race Coalition, a group of companies pledging to address racial inequality in America.

6. Instacart

Starting this Giving Tuesday and running through Dec. 7, Instacart users can use their grocery orders to donate food directly to both national and international organizations fighting hunger. Each time a customer places an order in the app or on instacart.com, they can choose to donate one meal at no additional cost. There's no limit to meal donations. Users can also track their donations over the week using the in-app Impact Report.

7. Tinder

Through Dec. 4, dating app Tinder will donate up to $250,000 to women’s equality advocacy organizations for every user that adds a women’s equality sticker to their profile. Each sticker used earns a $3 donation split among four women-focused organizations that are working to end sexual violence and discrimination. Users can add stickers through their profile settings or find them through Tinder's new Explore feature.

8. Immigration Equality

Immigration Equality is an LGBTQ-led nonprofit and advocacy group that offers legal services and other resources to LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants, some of whom are asylum seekers. Starting on Giving Tuesday and running through Dec. 31, all donations to the organization will be matched up to $30,000.

9. Human Rights Watch

On Giving Tuesday, all donations to Human Rights Watch will be matched five times. The organization currently has a $125,000 fundraising goal to support the organization's mission of investigating and reporting on human rights abuses around the world.

10. Planned Parenthood

In honor of Giving Tuesday, all donations made to the Planned Parenthood Federation before midnight on Nov. 30 will be matched dollar for dollar. Donation matching will be capped at $100,000.
